Aqara Presence Sensor FP2, Wi-Fi mmWave

The Aqara FP2 uses millimetre-wave radar to tell whether people are in a room, even when they are sitting still, reading, or asleep. A standard PIR sensor only notices movement, so lights and air conditioning often switch off on someone at a desk. The FP2 avoids that.

It goes beyond simple occupancy. One room can be divided into up to 30 zones, such as a sofa, a desk, or a doorway, and each zone can trigger its own automation. It tracks up to five people at once. It also detects falls and has a built-in light sensor. Wall-mounted, it covers an 8-metre radius across a 120° field of view. Aqara recommends it for spaces of 10 to 40 m².

The FP2 connects directly to 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, so no Aqara hub is needed. It works with Apple HomeKit, Alexa, Google Home, and Home Assistant. It is powered over USB-C rather than batteries, so it never needs a battery change. We can plan sensor positions and automations as part of a smart-home installation.
