The eTrex 10 is Garmin's entry-level handheld GPS. It is simple, tough, and easy to learn, which makes it a practical tool for field staff who need to record coordinates, walk boundaries, and find their way back to marked points.
It receives both GPS and GLONASS satellites for a quicker position fix, even under light tree cover. The 2.2-inch monochrome display is easy to read in direct sunlight and helps the battery last. It comes with a worldwide basemap, and it supports paperless geocaching.
Two AA batteries give up to 25 hours of use, and the unit is rated IPX7 against water. It does not load detailed maps and has no colour screen. For those, the eTrex 20x or 32x is the step up. It is a good choice for surveys, enumerations, farm mapping, and site visits on a tight budget.
